Description

North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC) is at the heart of health and care delivery across one of England’s most diverse and geographically distinctive regions. We provide hospital and community services to more than half a million people across Cumbria and North Lancashire, delivering over 70 services from 15 main locations through the dedication and expertise of more than 6,500 colleagues. Our values of Kindness, Respect, Ambition and Collaboration underpin everything we do, ensuring safe, high-quality and compassionate care for every patient, every time.

This is a unique opportunity to join our Board as Chief Nurse at a pivotal moment for both our Trust and the wider NHS. As an integrated care organisation and a key partner within the North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care System, we are driving innovation, improving outcomes and developing new models of care that bring services closer to the communities we serve.

We are on an ambitious improvement journey. Our five-year strategy is focused on transformation, sustainability and delivering more integrated care, and we are seeking an exceptional Chief Nurse to help shape and deliver this vision. Reporting to Trudie Davies, Chief Executive, you will join a Trust with a strong commitment to delivering outstanding care and improving outcomes for our patients, communities and workforce.

As a key member of the Executive Team, you will provide strategic leadership for nursing, midwifery and allied health professionals, championing patient safety, quality and experience across the organisation. You will foster a culture in which people feel valued, respected and supported to thrive, while ensuring the highest standards of compassionate, inclusive and evidence-based care.

Working across the Great North Healthcare Alliance and the North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care System, you will play a leading role in strengthening partnerships, reducing health inequalities and driving innovation at both organisational and system level. You will be an authentic and visible leader, committed to open, honest and transparent communication, with the ability to inspire confidence, build engagement and lead complex transformation.  As part of our drive to work in collaboration with partners, and to strengthen our relationships with the University of Cumbria, there is a potential for any suitable qualified applicant to be awarded a joint honorary appointment with the University.

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse or Midwife with a strong track record of senior level leadership, service improvement and delivering sustainable change. You will bring strategic insight, professional credibility and a deep understanding of the evolving NHS landscape, alongside a passion for creating psychologically safe, inclusive environments where staff can excel and patients receive exceptional care.
